Why do your 1998 Mitsubishi Galant shake real bad and cutoff when you stop at a traffic light or stop sign?

My car is a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant, and when it was idle it used to do the same thing, I was told it might be time to change the TPS Sensor (Throttle Position Sensor). I still need to change it, but what I figured out, is that when you let the car fully warm up, when the needle is as close to the middle as possible, it won't shake and turn off.
