Why would your computer keep restarting when broadband is left on?

If you are running on Windows 7, and the computer is shut down and starts, there is a good possibility that you have an option called "Wake on LAN" enabled. This enables your computer to start whenever your LAN/network cable becomes active.

Did you try system properties / advanced / startup and recovery? There's an option there that makes the system restart every time there's a system failure. Make sure it's disabled. You should get an error next time it tries to restart. Then you can begin to search for more explanations from the error.

A system failure could come from anything including your Broadband connection if something or someone tried to start an application or activate a program.

3. Another option, since Microsoft just released updates last night, was that your computer was updated on what has been dubbed "patch Tuesday". Microsoft once a month releases updates to fix flaws and vulnerabilities. If it's only rebooting once a month or so, then this may be the case.
