The blocks are absolutely the same, and so are the heads. The long block will fit just fine. But you are going to have to literally turn that 94 engine into a 96 engine. Everything will have to be transferred over, including all the injectors, sensors, wiring, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Did I mention everything? I think you get the idea. Everything that has anything to do with electronics or engine control will have to stay with the car that it came on. Also, look very carefully at the timing cover. On the 96, there is a crank sensor, on the 94 there isn't. You will probably have to transfer the timing cover to accomodate the crank sensor that now has to be on the 94 engine. You will no doubt have to use the 96 harmonic balancer, since there will be no crank sensor exciter ring on the older balancer. Also, the 94 engine has a distributer, the 96 does not have one, but it has a camshaft synchronizer/oil pump drive with a cam position sensor on top. This requires a special alignment tool. Have no fear. I would do this: Line up both engines on top dead center. Make absolutely positively sure you are on TDC of the cyl #1 compression stroke of both engines. You are going to have to make an exact transfer of the synchronizer onto the new engine in the same position that it came off the old engine in. To do this, before you loosen the holddown bolt on the synchronizer, remove the cam sensor off the top of the sychronizer assembly. Use some white out to mark where the vane is positioned on the synchrizer, then remove the holddown bolt and transfer it to the 94 engine, align the vane to your mark, make sure the window is aimed away from the intake manifold, and secure the holddown bolt. You should be fine with your synchronizer setting. If it's out of alignment, the engine will run, you will just get a check engine light with a code P0340. You could drive it to the dealer and they should only charge you 60 or 70 bucks to align it for you, but I don't think you'll have a problem, if you make sure both engines are in the same position at TDC when you make the transfer. I am sure you realize the intake and exaust manifolds have to come over from the 96 onto the 94 as well. Here's wishing you success!
yes you just have to change over cam position sensor crank sensor exhaust manafolds and upper intake and injectors also valve covers its not that hard block is the same
it's a nightmare, get a real mechanic.
