It sounds like your coolant temperature sensor is shorting out. From the factory these sensors are a plastic composite covered resistance sensor. Over time and lots of temperature cycles the plastic cracks and the coolant starts to short out the sensor. Your dealer has the replacement sensor, conveniently covered with a brass/copper jacket for about $25.00. The sensor is located on the driver side of the engine near the coolant return hose. All you need to do is unhook the wire connected to it, then remove the old sensor and quickly install the new sensor. Some coolant will leak in the process but is minimal and will not cause a problem as long as you do not take forever to install the new sensor. Reconnect the wire and you should be back in business.
