1) Set emergency brake.
2) Take shifter and move it out of park and into drive, then back into park.
3) If the key still can't be removed put the car into neutral
4) Try and "force" the steering wheel to the left or right, it will be hard.
5) Put the car into park and repeat step four
What has likely happened is after parking the car it rolled just a couple of inches forward after going into park, and the parking prawl is making it hard to remove the key. Or the steering has also made it hard to remove. The other issue is the parking prawl may have failed or is damaged.
Well this depends on the vehicle, some are located on the sterring colom next to the bottom, if its colom shift, if it has a floor shifter in it it can be in the consol under the shifter, or located on the transmission itself. Try turning the sterring wheel just a little while trying to turn the key. Also you might try pulling up on the gear shift lever if this is a column shifter while trying to turn the key. Hope this works.
Don't know which vehicle you have, but it sounds like there is a linkage between you ignition key and shifter. This basically allows your ignition key to lock your shifter, it prevents someone from shifting your car into neutral and pushing it away, or keeps a child playing from rolling your car down the hill into the house. The problem is as things wear it car work backwards, your shifter is placing pressure on your ignition switch, pressure you relive by lifting it. If its become a problem your mechanic may be able to adjust the linkage. I would just get used to it.
May have to remove shifter to align "forks" in transmission Boot and shifter should unbolt from interior or vehicle
Whats the problem? cant help you unless you describe what its doing/not doing.
If you cannot move the shifter out of the park position then you have a problem with the shifter cable or the brake safety lock. If you can move the shifter to the drive position, and it doesnt go in gear then you are a few quarts low on transmission fluid
I have this same problem. A broken shifter box. I will repost a fix as soon asap.
If its a automatic,I had the same problem, take a small flat head screwdriver. And in the front of the shifter, facing towards the stereo is a little slit in the shifter and you will see a tiny U-shaped pin. put the screw driver between the pin an shifter an pop it out towards your deck and then pull the shifter up and off.
They are compatible. the only problem you may have is the shifter. If the corvette does not have overdrive on the shifter you won't be able to get the car in first gear.
If you can run the shifter down through the positions it may have broken loose at the transmission . If the shifter doesn't move at all it may be a problem in the steering column < unless it is a floor shifter >. If it is a floor shift model I'd start by checking the shifter release button to see if it is broken.
You may have to remove the shifter and realign forks in the top of transmission--problem usually caused by wear
If it is a 2007-2010 there is a spring retainer on the shifter that breaks.
