i believe the smell and low mileage are directly related to you removing the cat. heres why.... 1) Cats are primarily designed to remove harmful NOx gasses from the exhaust stream by heating them up to around 600+ degrees. imaging lighting a match, theres never any smoke until the flame goes out therefore the hotter something is the more complete the combustion is. Cats work on the same principle. so you will have a lot more toxic gases coming out of your exhaust with out a cat which will alter the way the exhaust smells hence it will smell similar to a car wich is over fuelling. 2) due to the above process backpressure is created as a side effect of the NOx scrubbing process which in its most basic form will restrict the flow of gasses out of the exhaust stream. as the engine is having to fight this resistance power and therefore mileage will drop. when removing the cat you are taking away this restriction which will decrease your mileage but increase the power output of the block. given the nature of the RX7, which as standard produces more exhaust gases and get less mileage than the average piston engine the removal of the catylizer is only ever going to aggravate the situation. the only option really without reverting back to the original catalytic converter is to go with a racing Cat -these will scrub the NOx more to reduce the smell but will do next to nothing to increase mileage. i believe bonez make a very good racing cat. hope this helps.

Can you drive your car if it misfire?

yes,but the motor is not running efficiently so it will likely have bad fuel mileage, and the unburned fuel could clog exhaust filters such as catalytic converter, it could cost you more in the long run, but it is possible

What is a turbo exhaust?

It's a turbine mounted in the exhaust manifold to give more power and smoother running to the engine.

Why car smells like gasoline when running?

because of the exhaust

How do you adjust a Edelbrock carburetor to get better fuel mileage?

First, you need to find an exhaust gas analyzer and find out what the mixture is when you're running down the road. If you're running rich (too much hydrocarbon in the exhaust) try putting a smaller set of jets in. Be careful, it's easy to go too far and if you do that you'll burn valves and possibly a piston.Repeat the process until you get a good mixture, then adjust the idle mix.

What do catalytic converter's do?

Combustion engines produce, in their exhaust, a number of nasty chemicals. The purpose of a catalytic converter fitted to the engine's exhaust system is to convert these nasty chemicals into harmless ones to provent environmental pollution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reduces the toxicity of internal combustion engine exhaust. It uses a catalyst and a chemical reaction to convert toxic combustion by products into a less toxic substance. A catalytic converter takes the exhaust gas stream from the engine and breaks the noxious components of the exhaust down to less noxious or harmless components. To reduce auto emissions. The catalyst in a catalytic converter causes unburned hydrocarbons to oxidize. To do so, oxygen must be present in the exhaust mixture. If an engine is running well, there isn't really much for the catalytic converter to do. If the engine is in need of a tune-up, the catalytic converter may get quite a workout and in the process it can get very hot. Also, deposits can build up on a catalytic converter, making it useless. If the engine is running poorly, and a lot of unburned fuel is going out the exhaust, deposits from the fuel can build up on the catalyst. If the engine is burning oil, oil deposits can also build up. It converts carbon monoxide, which is very deadly to all animals into carbon dioxide, which is not near as bad for the environment and it also helps prevent greenhouse gases because of this.

What makes these shoes "high mileage"?

High mileage is a term to describe running shoes. The support in these shoes is designed for long distance running. A hiking shoe would be a better shoe for hiking.

How do you know if you need a new exhaust What are the effects of having an old exhaust?

If the car starts sounding louder than normal, or if the exhaust note changes (essentially, if it starts sounding like a race car and it never did before), crawl under and look for leaks, holes, etc. There are two effects of having a bad exhaust. One is just bad--it can upset the way the car runs, and possibly cause it to stop running after a while. The other's terrible--exhaust gases can find their way into the ventilation system, get into your car and kill everyone inside.

Why is catalytic converter overheating?

A catalytic converter overheats due to an excess of unburned hydrocarbons reaching it through the exhaust stream for an extended period of time. This overworks the catalyst bed inside the converter, which then starts to become plugged, generating even more heat as it does. In short order, the converter will become a significant exhaust obstruction, causing the engine to overheat and lose power. Eventually, this will prevent the engine from running, due to the inability of the exhaust to escape, denying the engine the opportunity to "breathe"...

Why Red hot exhaust on suzuki 400?

Engine is running lean.

What would cause significant white exhaust and running rougher only when it is cold outside on a 1999 Mercury Tracer?

white exhaust and rough running usually indicate possible blown head gasket.

Why does your exhaust manifolds glow red hot and flames out exhaust?

I dirt track race and mine did it once it was because it was running to lean.
