Or from autozone you can buy a quadra-jet to standard adapter plate if you don't have that edelbrock or if you have a holleythe intake manifold is hopefully what youre talking about and the answer is noAnsweryes you can. if you have a stock intake manifold, which uses a quadrajet carb, you can use edelbrock part number #2696 which you can buy from summit racing (www.summitracing.com). it allows you to use an edelbrock performer square bore carb on the stock quadrajet manifold. for that motor i recommend the edelbrock #1406 which you can also get from summit.

The calculation method has changed a few times in the last 40 years, so it's hard to answer that question with a number. A 69 350 had 10.5-1 compression, a mild hydraulic cam and a quadrajet carb. It made good horsepower (maybe 250-275 by today's standards) up to about 5500 rpm, and strong torque (perhaps 300+) throughout the midrange.
According to Edelbrock, the 2701 Performer EPS is designed for use with square bore carburetors (for those who don't know the difference between a square bore and a spread bore: A square bore has primaries and secondaries that are the same size; a spread bore has small primaries and large secondaries -- like a quadrajet). Edelbrock recommends a 600 CFM performer carburetor for use with the 2701 intake manifold. Edelbrock recommended part numbers are: 1405 with manual choke; or 1406 with electric choke and calibrated slightly leaner than the 1405 for daily driving & fuel economy. You can also use Holley carburetors as well (vacuum secondary or double pumper in the size of your choice).
Go to Amazon books and type in rochester quadrajet. You'll find several choices of books that explain step by step how to tune a quadrajet.
The oem is a Rochester Quadrajet, but you could also use a Holley, Carter or Edelbrock, among others. It would be best to pick a carb that you or someone you know and trust knows how to tune. In the alternative, buy a book on tuning the carb of your choice.
Very little, if any at all. The carburetor is not what makes the horse power, The rotateing system and Valve train is what makes HP.

on a holly or demon you want to remove the fuel bowls and the jets are in the metering blocks. on a edelbrock or carter remove the top of the carb and they should be under the floats on a quadrajet remove the top plate and they are on the bottom remove the jets and if the car is running rich replace the jets with smaller ones if it is running to lean replace with larger ones only go up one size at a time
