I have 1989 jeep Cherokee automatic 4.o and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear so i looked all over and found out it was the t.p.s it cast me at pepboys about 90-bucks But better the a new tranny. Try it it works "Throttle position sensor" thanks Jeff e s
what's it doing?
You have to know whats wrong with the transmission before you can fix it.
A 2000 Jeep automatic that is not shifting correctly after it gets hot might have something wrong with the speed sensor that is located in the transmission. The speed sensor tells the transmission what gear to shift into at certain speeds.
O2 sensor or vacuum leak
Have you checked the fluid level? Have you changed the filter and fluid as normal maintenance?
Check your transmission fluid. This happened to me in my 1992 Chevy Silverado & it turns out I had a tranny fluid leak.
The bearing has failed in the water pump. The pump will need replaced.
if its the 5.2 liter model thats your answer right there
Possible bad trnsmission filter. Replace filter. HAve you checked the fluid level? or added the wrong fluid?
i am having the same problem and had it before in my 1996 grand Cherokee and i traded it in on a 2004 grand Cherokee and the same thing is happing. i spent like 2000 dollors on different macanics and no one fixed it. There is a solenoid located above the transmission pan that controls the down shifting. To have this replaced at a shop it will cost about $300.
Start with the fuses, then go to the more complex problems
whats wrong with it is it crooked or what?
