check the shift linkages for adjustment.there is also an actuator switch on side of transmission will prevent this. if those 2 checks dont fix the problem, your transmission is shot
There can be several things that will an automatic transmission not to work properly. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. Broken shifting linkage can also cause the problem.
My daughters 1997 Saturn SC2 coupe automatic transmission has no reverse? what would cause this?? and how can i fix it without replacing the transmission.
clutch plates could be welded to gather
There can be several things that will cause your transmission not go into reverse. The most common cause is the gear in the transmission is worn.
If this is an automatic transmission, more than likely the transmission is on it's way to the junkyard. Usually failing transmissions lose reverse first, then the higher forward gears - last will be the lowest forward gears.
could be either transmission shift linkage not engaging reverse ( stops at neutral ) worn joint connectors sometimes cause this. or reverse clutches or gears bad inside transmission.
possible problems: broken engine mounts cause the engine to jerk, or tranmission fluid needs change, and possibly bad transmission.
There are several things that can cause your automatic transmission not to go into first gear. The most common cause is low transmission fluid.
The most common cause of a automatic transmission jerking, when shifting, is low transmission fluid. Fill the transmission to the full mark.
An s-10 transmission with no reverse most likely has an internal problem. The shifter fork or a gear issue can cause no transmission reverse.
Assume it's an automatic. You probably have a bad valve-body or clutch pack in the transmission.
Could be a universal joint. If front wheel drive, it could be the constant velocity joint. I am assuming you have an automatic transmission. If it is a standard transmission, it could be the throwout bearing.
