1991 Honda Accord Sports Transmission light blinking?

I have a 1991 Honda accord ex coupe. when i start the car the s light is solid but soon starts blinking until its turned off. my tranny shifts fine and engine runs great. I replaced the main relay and cleaned up the wires and harness on the TCU (located under the passenger side kick panel) and havent had the prob.

The most correct answer I think of is ordering your "Factory Service Manual" from Helminc.com Honda won't sell them to you directly, but the publisher will;>)There is a flow chart for the S Light. As a general rule of thumb here is a quick version I use to troubleshoot:1. Are the tach or speedo acting abnormally? Answer: replace the speed sensor (VSS)2. If not most likely it will be the TCU. You can get a remanufactured one for about $150 or do what I do and go to Radio Shack and buy the resistors and capacitors that melted and re-solder them on the tcu yourself.Pull the kick panel off on the passenger side. Pull the carpet back. There are three metal bolts holding the tcu and the ecm in a metal frame to the floor. Disconnect the three electrical connections and remove the unit. On your bench you can remove the four screws holding the top on the tcu and remove the circuit board. De-solder the bad IC's and replace them.This is due to cheap solder being used at the Honda plants during these years. Recalls prompted the use of better solder but unfortunately these are riddled with similar problems in the main relay and other similar components that cause intermittent weather related anomalies
