1995 town car has a coolant leak coming from between trans back on eng can it be a freeze plug its not leaking from the out side of the eng. or the freeze plugs on the back of the heads?

My 1991 Town Car has this problem. I discovered the source of the leak is a rusty metal coolant line at the back of the engine that carries water from the heater core to the water pump. The complete path is as follows: The heater core outlet hose connects to this pipe and the pipe then travels down the back of the motor and screws into the block. A passage inside the block then continues the path up to the back of the water pump which has a hole in it to receive the water. The metal pipe rusts out over time. I had a sticking thermostat, which I suspect over pressurized the system and led to the rusty pipe cracking.
The bad part is I can see no way to replace this metal pipe because you cannot get to it. It looks like either you have to drop the transmission out or pull up the interior carpeting and cut an access hole in the floor to reach it. I pulled the right inner fender apron today and was able to reach it just enough to smear a lot of JB Weld on the crack. I will see if it holds tomorrow. Good luck. Bob in Florida
my 97 Lincoln tc had this problem. its hard to see but a hose off water pump goes to crimped connection then through valley under intake manifold changes line sizes on back of block and on to heater core. my cure instead of pulling intake manifold to replace hose was to get preformed hoses at auto parts and route hose outside motor intake.

How can you see where the coolant leak is coming from It seems to me that its coming from between transmission and motor?
It is possible for coolant to leak out between the motor and transmission, if a freeze plug has been leaking. I had this problem on an old International Travelall I had. The motor will need to be pulled.

Freeze plugs. More likely that hoses are leaking or thermostat housing is leaking. Freeze Plugs generally NEVER leaks unless engine block has had frozen coolant in it. Hence, Freeze Plugs.

green fluid is engine coolant. as this is showing up near the transmission this could be leaking from the head gasket or from a freeze plug. you will just have to trace back where it is coming from remember there are freeze plugs behind transmission which are not viible while transmission is in vehicle

There is a heater hose that goes to the left rear top side of the intake manifold and that fitting leaks engine coolant sometimes and it will run down the back of the intake around the distributor. If that fitting is not leaking then the intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant in the corners of it. REplace the intake gasket. That's all that can leak coolant on that year engine. If coolant is leaking out between the transmission and engine block then you have a freeze plug leaking in the back of the engine, between the transmission and block. Must remove the transmission and flywheel to fix it.
