This question was just split off from the "No-heat" question below - which includes diagnostics and trouble-shooting for so much more than just flushing and the thermostat.

AnswerI'm assuming it did this before you changed the thermostat too. If not, maybe you installed the thermostat upside down. If all is well I'd suspect your heater control valve. As I recall it's vacuume operated so check the vacuume line for cracks/breaks. etc.you might wanna think about replacing your heater core. I've had this in the past and it meant the heater core died. after replacing it, it worked just fine. it can die without blowing anti-freeze foul smelling smoke everywhere. that just means it cracked. i get warm air, but LOTS of smoke lol. it could also be that your water is not circulating right. have you checked your water level? if you do not have a full radiator, it will NOT blow hot air. I've had many problems with cars in my life. any more questions on Taurus/sable, feel free to ask me.
have you flushed your radiator or changed the thermostat it could be stuck
Sounds like thermostat is not opening and needs replacing
No, it will only match '95 -'01 Taurus. They changed the mounting frame in late '01
I would turn attention to the actuator motor that drives the temperature blend door.Rather common failure and a not-too-difficult-nor-expensive repair.See "Related Questions" below for instructions...
Clogged up cooling system needing to be flushed?Water pump impeller is wearing - failing?See "Related Questions" below for more
When was the last time you had the transmission flushed and the filer changed? As the oil warms it loses it's viscosity and it's ability to drive the transmission. Have a compete flush done (about $160) and your roblem should go away.
It is overdue to be changed.
I would suspect a clogged transmission filter. Have the transmission fluid changed and the filter replaced. See where you stand after this service. Do not have the transmission flushed. But also make sure they change all the fluid and not just what is in the pan.
check the front of the engine at the bottom for an electrical plug
You do not need to replace the timing chain because there is no timing belt at all on Ford Taurus. It has a timing chain.
When the engine is getting a complete rebuild.
The Taurus / Sable design radically changed in 1996 making the windshields, and probably all window & body parts incompatible.
