1997 Renault Megane convertible. When the electric roof was in mid flow engine turned off. We had to maually close the roof and the motor now needs to be re set. Renault says 250. Any cheaper ideas?

I have just bought a 97 megane with the same problem. Think I found the answer yesterday... as long as you are confident enough to have a go. I shall be tomorrow. The answer I found is:
The whole job took me just under an hour - bearing in mind I am a computer engineer and not a car mechanic and know nothing about Renaults at all..
To prevent this happening to others I have included a very quick guide of what to do if this happens again. I realise this will not fix all Renault hood problems but should at least be tried first and 1 hour labour should do it…
1) Release hydraulics on hood cover by undoing the small tap located in the boot (under left hand carpet in boot)
2) Pull manual release for boot cover - located in the boot area rear seat compartment (Step 1 and Step 2 better documented in the owners manual)
3) With the Hood nearly closed (but with the back window in the air !) and the hood cover opened - by hand, remove the 2 nuts that hold the rear seat onto the rear bulkhead.
4) Now use a star / torque drive to remove the 4 screws that hold the hood release mechanism onto the rear bulkhead.
5) There is no need to disconnect any cables just remove from the cable clips.
6) The release mechanism can now be viewed easily. Look to re-engage the cam that the emergency release cable is attached to into the metal arm that is driven from the worm gear on the motor.
7) May need to engage small micro switches on the mechanism to get the worm gear to operate (do this very carefully and by holding the switches on while operating the hood from inside the cab. (need 2 people for this) Operate the hood only for short 1-second bursts until the worm gear allows the cam to drop easily back into place.
8) All above sounds complicated but actually when you have the mechanism laying in front of you in the hood storage space area its very straight forward and should take 30 - 40 minutes maximum for someone who has seen it once before.
Apparantly, this sounds more complex than it is... will let you know tomorrow!

Firstly thanks for your answer, it was very helpful. But I had problems getting the worm gear motor to activate, I tried different microswitch setting to no avail. In the end I unplugged the wiring plug, and unclipped the other wiring socket from the latch unit. Remove the unit, and then removed the four torx screws holding the motor to the unit, and carefully pulled the motor away about 5mm. this allowed me to re-engage the arm onto the pin. Finally pushing the motor back in place, and carefully retightening the screws. When refitted the roof operated fine, both down and up,and gave no more problems. cheers Barry.

Turn the car off... Then turn the keys in the ignition until all the dash lights light up... Then turn you headlights on and off maually three times... You should hear a beep. that means you have disabled the sensor! :) Hope that helps... repeat the process to turn it back on! :)

you need to remove the window motor then you can just move it by hand,my 92 astro van is the same way

You have to be able to hand-fly an airplane or the certification bodies won't allow it to be used in their airspace. There are a lot of reasons the airlines don't want you to hand-fly an airliner unless it's an emergency - it's more fuel efficient to use your autopilot, for one thing - but if you wanted to, you could hand-fly a 777 from the gate at the origin airport to the gate at the destination airport.

Sounds like the motor or gears have a problem. You can try to find the wiring and power the motor up in reverse manually. I had a problem with a seat in a Volvo and it allowed me to maually turn the gears to move the seat back itno a position where it was comfortable for the customer to drive. I then disconected the power to the seat motors so they couldn't move it by accident. I had to get inside the seat to do this.
How do you turn off the pass side airbag on an 06 S2000?
The 2006 S2000 and later models have an automatic weight sensing switch under the passenger seat. There is a light above the radio that will indicate the airbag is "OFF". I think the federally mandated switches have a sensitivity of 60 pounds or less. You'll find all US sold cars 2006 or less will have the automatic passenger airbag switch systems. No way to turn it off maually. As far as turning it off manually, you'll have to install an on/off switch. Check www.airbagonoff.com for more info.
Can you use motion sensors for speakers?
Yes you can. here is how. you take of the back of the speaker if possible. look at the circut board. there should be two red wires in the middle and a black wire in the right hand upper corner. you now need to detach these wire. the circut board of the motion sensor looks the same attach the wires of booth systems to their match. put the back on both devices, and set the motion detecter on top of the speaker. walk past the detecter or wave your hand in it and it will signal the speakers to turn on. the speakers will then signal the radio to turn on and to turn it off do it maually.
Which would be more cost effient filter that makes its own chlorine or putting it in maually each month?
For overground pools there is something called aclorinator which is attached between filter & ool with small hoses but, its reputation is not good...constant leaks, frequent adjusments & not very reliable. I find a very inexpensive way to regulate your chlorine is to buy one of these little floating devices which carry chlorine pucks & also has its own adjustment release opening, it will take you about a week to figure out how many pucks to keep in at a time. If you also have a bottom drain, together this will help reduce alot on vacuuming & standard pool maintainance.
How do you connect your PS3 to play online?
It depends what you want to use it for. If you mean connect it so you can access songs, pics, videos etc, you need to set up a DLNA Media Server connection.
