if you access to a scanner whitch your gonna need to see if the computer is reading a rpm signal if not the crank sensor is usually the corparet which is located eithier neer the front crank pully or on top of the transmission housing between motor and the trans housing and reads a magnetic type signal off the flex plate or fly wheel depending if auto or man trans this is a common problam with jeeps it could be the PCM computer, it happened to me, cost around 230 bucks, good luck
