The fuel lines disconnect at the tank and yes there is a tool required. You can get it at advanced or discount auto for a couple of bucks.
yes, and the foam insulating back could make the tank 'stick', especially if the tank is empty. Don't forget to disconnect the filler and vent lines, as well as the fuel pump lines and wiring harness.

You will have to let the tank down until you can reach the clamp. It will come down enough to reach everything. It is a tough job to do laying on your back.
On some models you can unscrew the bolts that hold the neck at the top where it connects to the body of the vehicle and drop the neck with the tank.Check yours and see if you can.
Your going to have to drop the tank. First disconnect the filler tube and overflow tube from the filler neck assembly (It will be easier to drain the tank from the filler tube than from the filler neck. Second, syphon the gas out!!! unless you have a lift and jack/hoist to hold the tank. Remove the two bolts from the straps with the tank being supported. (NOTE; these bolt may be rusted and have to be cut so be prepared to replace them.) Slowly lower the tank, at an angle, until you are able to disconnect the wiring to the fuel pump. Lower the tank a bit more than disconnect the two fuel lines and vapor line. At this point the tank should be totally disconnected. Lower the tank completely to access the fuel pump on top of the tank. remove the old pump and replace. reverse order to replace the tank. THIS IS NOT A ONE PERSON JOB UNLESS YOU HAVE A JACK SUPPORT!!!
The hole can be patches with replacement of the metal or with a body filler. a metal backing piece needs to be put in for the filler to have something to adhere to.
