Land-ownership in Africa meant more slaves and more space to farm and produce.

The African natives were uneducated and easy to overthrow, control, manipulate and exploit. Africa had large open stretches of land that the Europeans divided into enormous farms. Owning a farm was considered a luxury as land is scarcer in Europe. The farms were a novelty. They were also a means of income from selling crops and hunting game. Labour was cheap and no laws restricted the Europeans. Ivory and venison was also a means of income and entertainment.

All of this came down to one thing: money.

What was the time period when Europe colonized Asia and Africa called?

the first European colonization wave took place from the early 15th century (Portuguese conquest of Ceuta in 1415) until the early 19th century (French invasion of Algeria in 1830), and primarily involved the European colonization of the Americas, though it also included the creation of European colonies in India and other Asian countries (Spanish conquest of Philippines).
