Belt may be loose or glazed
Loose belts
I have a 99 and had a nasty squeal that would be intermittant upon acceleration, I changed the belts (upper and lower) and used Gatorbacks (belts by Goodyear), and the squeal is gone.. Don't know if this is the problem or not, but it will only cost you about 50 bucks and hour worth of your time to find out. Good luck!
I have just gone through 4, yes four compressors, condensor and belts on a 2000 grand vitara. I was told finally today the reason the compressors contine to squeal with each one is that the system has rust fragments in it from ( running it dry ?)and locking up the compressor ie.... the squeal, the belts have also been replaced and to No surprise the whole thing needs to be replaced at a tune of $2, 500 The company that we took it to spoke with the manufactor of the compressors and stated the only way to relieve the SQUEAL was to replace the whole airconditioning system due to the fragments entering the whole system. Hope this helps
The procedure for a 2001 Avalon is quite complex. Details are posted at http://bytemaster.net/avalon . The same procedure might work for a 2000 model.
There is only one engine belt, which work for the engine and the AC compressor.
squeal is a lose belt or one of the accessory will need to be replaced soon
If that dash light is the only that went out, it probably means that that partcular bulb is burnt out.
lap belts only lap belts only
No they are quiet animals and will freeze still. If threatened they will show their claws and hiss. Only babies squeal to call mom for help.
Timing chains never need to be changed, only belts.
These creatures are very vocal. They will squeal at all kinds of things. It will not be a bad thing if it squeals like this if you know there is nothing wrong with it.
If I read this correct, it makes the squeal after the engine is shut off. If so, I would replace the crankcase breather filter. Not sure where it would be on your engine, but on a 98 model it was on the drivers side right hand corner of the valve cover. It is a dealer only part, but it will only cost $10-15 and takes about two minutes to change.
