I had the same problem with the same year car. I've replaced the resistor several times. It works for months & then it stops working again. I think this is the 4th time I replaced the resistor, it is working okay now. I think it is a defect in with this cars fan system. I had a similar problem with my 2001 Sebring Convertible. I had the blower motor replaced, and now the fan works perfectly.

This happened on my wife's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She took it in to Chrysler for diagnostics and they found the blower motor resistor was bad and replaced it. part no# 5143127-AA Resistor Blower - 803502 $11.12 Electrical System Tech labor $149.21 It worked.

It is behind the glove box. Remove the glove box door and there are 2 screws that hold the resistor in.
