First how do you know your oil pressure is low? Low oil pressure would not keep the oil from getting to the top of an engine by itself. The oil pressure valve you speak of would be in the oil pump, but the pressure relief valve being stuck openn would not cause this eather. The only thing that will raise oil pressure is to put new main bearings in that is where the pressure comes from.
I had the same problem with my 3000GT. Took it to the dealer and first thing he asked me if I was using an aftermarket filter (i.e., FRAM). He replaced it with a genuine Mitsubishi filter and the car runs just fine now! I use the OEM filters only now and have had no problems for over 100,000 miles since. Mechanic told me that the Mitsubishi filter is specially designed just for Mitsubishi cars, to assure oil gets to the top of the engine. Aftermarket filters are too "universal" and now I am a believer!
Look into piston slap
Cause low pressure oil pump
The bearings on the crankshaft are worn out. A complete engine overhaul is needed.
knocking noise
Knocking noise in the engine may be as a result of excessive backlash, misaligned gears and worn timing chain. Blowing of excessive oil pressure could be as a result of stuck regulator.
1. It could be caused by the oil pump is worn. 2. It could be from worn rod bearings or piston slap in the bore from wear. 3. It could be oil is not getting to all parts of the engine at right pressure.
knocking as in spark knock? or engine knock? spark knock is adjusted through a knock sensor via ignition timing. eng. knock is due to brg. knock as in low oil pressure or sluge in engine or just a tired motor
When the oil light is on, it means you have low oil pressure. This can be caused by low oil level. When you first start the car, the oil light will come on momentarily, then turn off to signify that proper oil pressure has been reached. An engine knocking usually indicates that the engine is about to stall.
engine knocking hard, and shaking a bit
There will be a loud knocking and rattling. The engine will not go far before it is destroyed. If in doubt chat the system has adequate oil pressure.
If it is not working you have no oil pressure and the oil light will come on or the oil pressure gauge will drop to 0. You will also hear engine noise, as in, pecking, or knocking. Engine will also overheat very quickly.
NO. A knocking noise in the engine is a problem in the engine.
