Bean, gas smell...hmm.
You can have a gas leak without drips. The gas can evaporate before it gets the chance to drip. You would need to put it on a lift and look for seepage and for softening of the undercoating. Common locations would be at the filler neck grommet and at the vapor recovery tank.
