It was much the same as today, though a little colder. Rhode Island has a temperate climate moderated by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, with warm summers and cold winters. Rain falls evenly throughout the year, and snowfall averages 25-35 inches with more inland. Hurricanes, though rare, are not unknown to strike the southern edge of New England.
The Rhode Island Colony consisted of a lot of lowlands and low rolling hills. There were also areas of mountains covered with trees. The soil in many areas was rocky, prohibiting the planting of many types of crops grown in some of the other colonies.
1.Roger Williams almost got arrested by speaking out to the puritans about his religious beliefs. So he was banished from the colony and he that's how he found Rhode Island.
