When the gas gauge stops working in a vehicle, the first thing to check is the fuse. This is an easy and inexpensive task and may end the problem right then and there. If that isn't the issue, there could be a lose or broken wire between the gauge and the battery, or the float could be stuck or need to be replaced. It is also possible that the voltage regulator is failing.
We need to know which gauge stopped working.
had that prblem, its your wireing hornis
Because it's stuffed
If both the speedometer and odometer stopped working it is probably the speed sensor in the transmission gone bad. If only the speedometer quit you may have to replace the dash cluster with a reconditioned unit.
1993 chevy 4.3 v6 1500 truck temp gauge inoperative,
Check for a fuse in fuse block marked gauges.
Chevy's are known for this problem, i just recently had the same problem and what you need to do is replace the fuel sending unit. My original problem had to do with my fuel pump not working and i wasn't really worried about the gauge but we figured since we had the tank down we might as well swap the sending unit and my gauge starting working. Good luck
Electrical connection issue.
could be a bad sensor a bad gauge or a broken or disconnected wire
in the fuel tank
If your asking this question you shouldn't be working on your truck.
It's either the speedometer gear in the tranny, the speedo cable that runs to the gauge, or the gauge itself in your dash. Either way it'll be a pain. The way I check is to remove the gauge in the dash and move the truck, if the cable spins ok, then you know it's the gauge. Best of luck.
