96 Mark VIII Why does the car temp gauge go a little above half way up then get accompanied by a grinding sound around 2000 rpm after driving in the city for extended periods of time?

Sounds like your water pump bearings are about to crap out. Answer #2 Or, . . . the bearings / bushings are grinding on the electric fan when it tries to come on, or the bearings / bushing are shot and the fan blades are rubbing when it turns on. That would account for the higher than normal heat gage reading and it happening in town. Ya don't need a fan at Highway speed. drl
