On a 97 with the supercharged 3.8L the Power Steering pump is not mounted on the same bracket as the alternator. The Alternator bracket includes the belt tension arm and has two water lines running through it but the power steering pump is mounted below it on the back of the engine. Why are you pulling the pump?

How to replace alternator bracket gasket on 2005 BMW 545i?

remove the alternator, remove mounting bolts for steering pump and position aside, remove upper engine mount bolt/nut, support engine with sling, remove the upper engine mount bracket, then finally accessory bracket. whole job with proper tools and equipment takes approx. 5 hours to do. I would not attempt to do this as a driveway repair.

How do you change timing belt on 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier?

First you should pull the belt off of the pulleys and out of the engine bay. Next, remove the power steering mount without disconnecting it. Next, detach the alternator wires and remove the alternator bracket.

You are thinking about putting your 1986 300zx's motor in your 87 300zx but you noticed that the alternator on the 87's motor is on the right and the 86's alternator is on the left will it mount same?

yes it will still mount the same. the motor mount are the same and same place throughout the 84-89 300zx turbo and non-turbo. but you will either have to take the alternator bracket of the 86 motor and put it on the left side of the 87 motor and take the right side alternator and bracket off or run the alternator wiring to the passenger side of the car.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1987 Honda Civic DX?

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air cleaner assembly if necessary. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt or nut and through-bolt and remove the alternator belt. Remove the alternator adjusting bolt or nut and through-bolt and remove the alternator. If necessary, remove the mount bracket bolts and the upper and lower mount brackets. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure: put the alternator in place and re-bolt mount bracket (if removed). Engage the electrical connectors and install the air cleaner assembly (if removed).

What is the deference between a saddle mount alternator and a side mount alternator?

A saddle mount alternator has a base mount. It almost appears as if the alternator is sitting on the mount....usually with two bolts. A side mount alternator has an ear molded into the body of the alternator and is held in place with one bolt.

How do you change the alternator in a 1994 Lincoln Continental?

Re: replacing a 95 alternator (Same for 94?) ---- It's a bit awkward to work in there, espesially on the front of the engine but you are correct, the Alternator is one of the top end components with only two things in the way....The Power steering fluid Reservoir and the Coolant Recovery Bottle need to be dis-mounted and set aside. The Alternator is 'solid mounted' meaning is not on a pivot mount for belt adjustment. The belt is the serpentine, single belt with a separate tensioner. There is one solid mount bracket on the top of the Alternator that gets completely removed, then two more bolts from the lower end of the Alternator to the front of the engine.Wires disconnect, and it's out..Reverse all that and it's back in

How do you remove an alternator from an 87 Honda civic 16 valve engine with a manual transmission?

Mine is an 89 civic but assume they are similar. Jack up the front of the car and put jack stands underneath ( caution: NEVER work under any car without having jack stands supporting the vehicle ). Now turn the steering wheel all the way to the right ( I think ) so that you can get at the plastic splash shields and either remove them or unfasten so you can pivot them out of the way. From the top, undo the electrical plug/cables and any bolts you can easily reach which unfasten either the alternator or the motor bracket ( they both have to be removed ). From underneath, finish removing the alternator from the bracket and lodge it somewhere in the compartment so it's not in the way while you remove the remainder of the bolts holding the mounting bracket to the engine. You have to remove the bracket to get clearance to remove the alternator out through the holes which were covered by the mud shields. Maneuver the alternator out and the new one in through the wheel well. Reinstall by reversing everything you did to get it out. I believe I had to push the new alternator up into the general area, then reinstall the main engine bracket before starting to mount the alternator into the bracket. You'll be able to see once you get started.
