Overweight is generally defined as having more body fat than is optimally healthy. Being overweight is a common condition, especially where food supplies are plentiful and lifestyles are sedentary. Actually, being overweight is defined as a BMI over 25.0. It does not necessarily (it usually does, but not always) mean that you have too much body fat. Just as an example, bodybuilders who have a lot of muscle can also be overweight (but are athletic). Regardless, it's usually better to try to maintain a healthy weight and avoid being overweight or obese with a healthy balanced diet and proper exercise.

Many police departments offer pay incentives for officers that maintain a high level of physical fitness, but there are no penalties for being out of shape.
