Technically, Hawaiians are Asians but in a special way. In Hawaii's history back in the first millennium, Hawaii's current inhabitants' genealogy can be traced back to Asia where the first Asian people migrated across the ocean. These areas include the present-day countries of China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia. These first Hawaiians at first were directly related to Asians. As time progressed, these native Hawaiians developed cultures of their own and started to drift away from "Asian" influence. When European travelers intervened, such as Cook, they brought European influences there, including the settling of European people in the area. With European genealogy in Hawaiians' history, the Hawaiians continued to change. Today, most of the true Hawaiians can be traced back to Asia with a minority of them from Europe. So, in the end, you can say that Hawaiians are mostly Asian.
