Mushrooms, the fruiting bodies of fungi, are high in fiber and protein, and provide vitamins and minerals. Mushrooms are known to contain the antioxidants Ergothioneine and Selenium1. Mushrooms are thought to benefit the immune system, and the oyster mushroom is known to contain cholesterol inhibiting compounds known as statins. In addition, certain mushrooms are known to have antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties in cell culture (in vitro).

No mold is a different species and their spores are unrelated to mushrooms. Mushrooms produce 'spores' as a form of 'seed', but all fungi are in a whole different family of organism than molds or mildews. It is akin to comparing a snake egg to a birds egg. They both have eggs but are very different organisms.

Mushrooms are not only delicious, but they're also packed with nutrients that can benefit your health. Here are some reasons why mushrooms are good for you:

These compounds help protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress, which has been linked to the development of chronic diseases like Heart disease and cancer (1).

  2. They boost your immune system. Mushrooms are a rich source of beta-glucans, compounds that have been shown to enhance immune function (2). Mushroom beta-glucans can activate immune cells like macrophages and natural killer cells,
