Why did the civilizations of the Mesopotamia need to develop irrigation?

Irrigation was important to agriculture in Mesopotamia because of the semiarid climate, the climate is hot and dry and gets less than 10 in. of rain a year. The climate reflects how the crops grow and the crops need a good supply and source of water so they can be plentiful. Since the climate of Mesopotamia gets a shortage of rain, the irrigation system, that transports the water from the river to the crops, is very important. Without the irrigation system, there would be no crops, and without crops, people would starve, and if people starved than there wouldn't be any people, and that wouldn't be good at all. This is why it's important to have irrigation for agriculture in Mesopotamia.

Did Marco Polo exploration open trade routes or establish territory?

Marco Polo's exploration opened trade routes. He traveled through Asia during the 13th century and his descriptions of the wealth and resources in the region sparked interest from European traders. However, his exploration did not establish territory, as Polo was a merchant-adventurer and not an official representative of any country seeking to colonize or claim land.

What factors contributed to the failure of their venture?

Because they could not trade because they were in a bad area that they had lots of food but hardly any trade routes.....and most climates or landscapes would not take what they would offer......Yeah likeDUH.

Why were silk roads important?

The Silk Road was trade routes from China, Korea, and India across Asia to southern Europe. It brought silks and spices to Europe who wanted them so badly that when the Silk Road was cut off, the Europeans looked for alternate routes to find these goods. This led to ships going around Africa and later going west to the New World.

What does geography GREATLY influence?

Climate and topography determine which crops can be grown in any area and what are the best draft and meat animals for it . Geography also determines what natural resources are available, stone, wood, metal ores, clay. Less important it decides trade routes.

Why was the sillk road important then?

Silk Road is a name which indicate a network of trading routes across Asia. It has been called Silk Road because the most important good which was traded along the routes from China to the Mediterranean Sea was silk. This was an expensive material which was sought by the rich in Europe. This was a problem for the Romans because wealthy Romans spent a lot of money on buying silk. Since the Chinese did not want to buy any Roman goods, this trade constituted an outflow of money from the Roman Empire. A substantial part of China's wealth came from the silk trade.

What two cities lie along ancient trade routes?

Cities in which country or region? There are hundreds or even thousands of cities which could reasonably be called ancient, and you can bet that most of them were on trade routes. Cities existed then, and still mostly do now, because they were centers for trade. Go pick any two old cities reasonably near each other, you can be sure they had a trade route between them (unless they had some barrier like impassible mountains in between).
