Some carriers may require or request two estimates especially if they are handling the claim from some distance, not seeing the vehicle themselves. Many companies inspect the vehicle and write their own estimates for damage. It makes sense really if you think about it, if the rep is not seeing the vehicle looking at 2-d photos, two estimates are of use in trying to assess the damage and make payment. Also many will 'combine' the two, someone may miss some damage on one estimate while another catches it.
