Probably the most commonly used dates for the Middle Ages are 476 AD to 1453 AD. Other dates are given for both the beginning and the end by different historians. Some historians simply give 5th century to 15th century.

Some historians regard the Middle Ages as only the second half of this period, calling the first half the Dark Ages. These people use about the same end date, but most commonly use 1000 or 1066 as the start dates.

Although medieval times do not have an exact start and end point you can at least pick out the centuries they began and ended. Somewhere in the 5th century kicked off the middle ages and it lasted until the 15th century... that's 1000 years! Some historians mark 1492 and the discovery of the Americas as the end of the medieval era.
