If the voltage while the vehicle is running, is somewhere around 13.8 volts, that means
the alternator is working properly. The best thing to do, is to disconnect the battery
cables and load test the battery with a load tester, not a volt meter. Just cause the
battery is saying 12 volts, doesn't mean it's good. Once it is under a load, say with your
headlights on, it may just start to drop rapidly, and not hold a charge. I'd just replace
the battery, if it's not holding a charge, and the alternator is working properly showing
a combined voltage of around 13.8 volts while connected to the cables and running.
Good luck.
You have a problem with the charging system, probably a bad alternator.
The voltage gauge on the dash refers to the charging system voltage. What this most likely means to you is that your alternator is not charging properly. If the battery is new and all battery and alternator connections are good and corrosion free you can be relatively sure the alternator has failed.
That's not 12 amps, that's 12 volts, which means the system isn't charging Measure the voltage across the battery terminals,if its charging properly,it will be between 13.8 and 14.7 volts, anything less and its not charging. Suspect then a faulty alternator or wiring problem. and have the battery properly recharged and tested too,a low battery will not give you a correct charging reading and a faulty alternator can take its toll on a battery.
The light is telling you that there is a problem with the charging system. You are running off the battery and will eventually get stuck with a dead battery if you continue to drive that vehicle with the battery light on. Drive to your local auto parts store and they will test the charging system for you at no cost. You are probably in need of an alternator.
over charging or bad bearings its about to let you stranded change it
You may need a new alternator and or battery.
Sounds like it is not charging, have the charging system tested, it may be the alternator at fault.
An alternator from a 2000 Chevy blazer will fit a 2002 S10 blazer with a little fabrication.
Simple, have the alternator checked and if it is okay, check the alternator circuit to the battery
You failed to mention what year the S10 is but, most of them use a fusible link to protect the alternator circuit.
sounds like the alternator is going bad.
It is inside the alternator.
