I currently have the same problem however unresolved for lack of drive and dollars.
I learned that on my 1997 Jimmy 4Dr 4x4 the blower motor is mounted within a plastic shroud under the hood, on the firewall furthest to the passenger side.
If the blower is dead with no reaction whatsoever, I would first check the electrical connection, the fuse panel and play with the controls a bit before replacing it.
If the blower motor is making noises, it is likely going to go however there could be something just rattling around inside the fan or the fan has become loose. It could be worth your while to check.
The blower motor costs $66 at NAPA in Aldergrove BC which is the only motor I have found with the "squirrel-cage" fan included. All others I have found ie. Lordco, Aldergrove Parts & Canadian Tire, the fan is not included and you have to salvage your old or purchase it separately.
One last note: The blower motor is covered by this black plastic shroud that must be either completely removed including the A/C components or cut for accessibility. Cutting it is the standard way of accessing the blower, however if you have to rebuild the conditioner, I would think saving continuity could be important.
I bought the "Haynes Chevrolet S-10 & Blazer, GMC Sonoma & Jimmy, Oldsmobile Bravada, Isuzu Hombre Automotive Repair Manual : 1994 Thru 1998
by Robert Maddox, John H. Haynes"
and it gives all the directions with pictures.

if it doesnt work on 1 and 2 it could be a blower motor resistor but if it doesnt work at all check the fuses, relay and check voltage if it reads 12 v replace the motor
Resistor or blower motor power module.
Blown fuse, bad motor, bad blower motor switch, or a defective Blower Motor Resistor Pack.
check the blower motor resistor located on fire wall behind washer fluid tank
If the HVAC blower motor does not work on any speeds, I would suspect the motor or the switch is bad.
usually the blower motor resistor pkg. located on or near the blower motor
blower motor won't work
If you are saying the blower motor will not work, then check the fuse. If the fuse is not blown, then it is possibly a defective Blower Motor Resistor Pack, blower motor, or blower motor speed control switch, in that order. If you are saying the blower motor will not work, then check the fuse. try wiggling the wires at the blower resistor if don't work then tap on blower motor
A malfunctioning blower motor resistor will cause the blower motor not to work. When the resistor is bad the blower motors will not turn on.
If the blower motor randomly and intermittenly quits and does not work, chances are good the blower motor itself is faulty, if the blower motor does not work on all fan speeds from low through high, it most likely needs a blower motor resistor.
Blown fuse, bad blower motor switch, blower motor itself, or a defective blower motor resistor pack.
