First of all I am in Canada and the laws of Immigration are drastically different - BUT - there are certain factors that contribute overall to your husband receiving his green card in your case. First of all, you are very young, and I would imagine he is older than you? Generally NO, he would be denied based on your age alone. The officers in the immigration dept are trained to spot "marriages of convenience" even if you know it be a genuine relationship. Being that you are so young, upon submission of your application, I can guarantee you the first answer will be DENIED. If you choose to appeal, look at these factors as being a possible acceptance: How long have you known each other? What is his origin? (if carribean you may have a harder time) Can you prove details of your personal relationship? Are you pregnant currently? Do you have full-time employment? What is your education level? Are their health risks, physically or emotionally, that can be supported by your physician, that would be detrimentally impaired if your husband were to be sent home?(high-risk pregnancy, depression, previous abandonment) These factors that may grant an automatic entry are called acceptance under "Compassionate Grounds" Does your family support this relationship? If so, have them write letters of support (it REALLY helps if it's your parents/guardians that write too) I can tell you from personal experience, having married a 25yr old man from Jamaica at age 16, it is not an easy process. Our relationship was VERY genuine but it is difficult to prove. Hopefully the US is more lenient than Canada, and maybe your immigration laws are different all together... but... be sure that when you meet with immigration for the "interview" that you know EVERYTHING about your husband. Including the colour of his toothbrush!!! Not kidding. Feel free to email me with any other questions. tcameron976@kwic.com
