Everything will mount to the 455 motor.....matter infact, if you use the 400 heads, you will gain some compression in comparison to a like 455 head (ie.. 400 vs 455 6x heads). can I have your old 400 motor? Yes everthing will fit. However, if you are going to drive it on the street you do not want higher compression, the stock compression on most 1970 Pontiac 455s is about 10.25-1 (already too high for 93 octane pump gas). Changing to a 1970 400 head (around 72cc combustion chambers) will put your compression up to about 12.5-1 and require at least 105 octane fuel. If this is for the strip only, or you have a source of affordable race gas then yes higher compression will increase horsepower and torque. On pump gas shoot for about 9.5-1 compression max with iron heads. A great head for a pump gas 455 is the 1971 400 head casting number 96 it has 2.11/1.77 valves and 96cc chambers and will make about 9.5-1 with a stock 455 short block.
Everything should bolt right up.
A 1970 Pontiac Service Manual will have this info in it. You can find them on Ebay or one of the literature places on the web.
If it is a Pontiac 350, any hei distributor out of any size Pontiac motor up to 1979 will work.
A trim package offered in the 1970-1981 firebirds. Was one level up from the base firebird, offered a delux interior, ect. Was not a performance option.
The 0-60 time for a stock(455 CU-IN) 67 Firebird is 5.5 seconds No such thing as a stock 455 67 Firebird. 455 wasn't built until 1970.
i think the GTO has the LS2 6.2 That depends on what your idea of a Pontiac engine is. The "New" Pontiac GTO was available with the 6.0 engine. If you are talking about a traditional Pontiac engine, the largest factory offered engine is the 455 from 1970-1976.
There is some aftermarket companies making a bandit and a 1970 look alike. Then there is also this below. Please refer to the related links.
Yes, the 350,400,or 455 will out weigh the 301 by about 200lbs, so the front end will sag under the additional weight. Depending on the year of the motor you are swapping in you may be able to use the stock mounts. 1970-1979 Pontiac V8s had five bolt bosses per side and will bolt up to the 301 mounts. Pre '70 only had two bolts per side making a mount swap nessary.
1in 1967 the 400 cu in V8 becme the standard for Bonneville until 1969, when a 360 hp 428 became the standard Bonneville engine, which in turn was replaced in 1970 by an even larger 455 cu in rated at 370 hp.
20 foot pounds.
The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was made by Pontiac, which is a division of General Motors. The first (1969), second (1970-1981), and third (1982-1992) generation cars were assembled at either the Van Nuys, California or Norwood, Ohio plants while the fourth generation (1993-2002) cars were assembled at the Sainte-Thérèse plant in Quebec, Canada.
Can you bolt on earlier heads/intake/exhaust manifolds.. from a 1970 Pontiac 455 to this 76 455 engine.
