There are several models on the market, both currently and in the past, which use electric Power Steering pumps. The Toyota Prius, Chevy HHR and Subaru XT6 spring immediately to mind. If the pump or its controller in one of these vehicles were to go bad, it could very well drain a battery very quickly. If, however, you car has a traditional engine driven pump, then it would not drain the battery.
