Rabies vaccinations in cats need to be renewed every 1 to 3 years. Your cat shouldn't contract rabies if they've been recently vaccinated. If you think your cat has been exposed to rabies, or can't remember when your cat was last vaccinated, call your vet ASAP. There is no cure or treatment for rabies in cats once symptoms occur, it's a fatal disease. It's also a disease that humans can contract.

Unfortunately, there are no tests that definitively show if an animal has rabies except for a test that is performed on samples of the brain after the animal has died. This is why it's extremely important to keep up with your cat's rabies vaccinations.

No. Animals with rabies have short lifespans. A cat with rabies lives only a few weeks. If all cats had rabies there would be no cats. The exception is bats. Bats can live for several years with rabies. If a bat bites you, see a doctor for rabies shots.

Can a cat get and infect to people rabies if they have a rabies shotAsk us anything?

If a cat has a rabies shot after it has already become infected with rabies, the shot will be ineffective and the cat can infect people despite having been vaccinated. If the cat receives its rabies shot while it is healthy, and if the shot is effective (which it is nearly all the time), then the cat cannot catch rabies and cannot infect a human. However, a very small number of rabies shots (about one in 100,000) is not effective. Note that the rabies vaccine can lose effectiveness if it is mishandled. In almost all cases, if the original shot is ineffective, the booster shot corrects it.

Can cats eat before they get a rabies shot?

Yes. You can feed the cat before rabies vaccine shot.

Is your cat going to be okay he has not had his rabies shot and you think he has rabies?

If my vaccinated cat was attacked by a feral cat and I handled him shortly afterwards am I at risk for rabies?

It depends on what kind of rabies shot your cat has because some last longer than others, and some require booster shots.

Can a cat transmit rabies to their kittens from nursing?

A nursing mother cat cannot get a rabies shot or any type of vaccine in particular. Vaccines contain live components that can cross the placenta and may cause defects or even death in the fetus.

Should a dog have a rabies booster shot when bitten by a coyote?

Because the rabies shot is a live virus, no. This could increase the rate of your dog getting sick from rabies. Get your dog tested, then if it has rabies, get it rabies injections.

Can you give my dog the rabies shot twice?

Is Rabies vaccine needed after previously vaccinated?

Typically, the rabies vaccine your vet gives to your cat/dog/other animal lasts one year the first time given, and the following rabies shot is usually for three years. Your vet probably sends out reminders to get pets vaccinated, but if your animal gets bitten by a raccoon/skunk/something known to have rabies, you can always take it in to get a booster shot to prevent any chance of your pet getting rabies.

Can a cat scratch give you rabies?

Yes, you can contract rabies from an infected cat. Rabies is a virus that can infect almost any mammal and is spread through the saliva, so if you are bitten by a rabid cat you can contract rabies.

When can a rabies cat infect you. i heard it was only a couple of days. would it be obvious if the cat had it. and also can it be detected with an eye test?

Rabies is transmitted through the salvia. If a cat has rabies, he can infect you with it. If a person is bitten or scratched by a cat with rabies, they have the possibility of getting rabies. An animal with rabies can show several symptoms. It can be disoriented, dumb looking, vicious, tired, foaming at the mouth, and/or unable to swallow. The only way to check for rabies is to send the head of the animal off for brain biopsy. For humans there is no test. If you are bitten or scratched by a rabies animal, go get rabies shots immediately.

What do you do when you find a cat?

NEVER pick a cat up that doesnt no u ,give it a bowl of food.....then let it do its thing....then go to the vet and give it a rabies shot and stuff, only if ur going to keep it

Do it gets a risk of rabies of a cat scratch?

It is unlikely. Rabies is caught by the transfer of bodily fluids, and if an infected cat bites you, you may get rabies from his saliva. In order to catch rabies from a cat scratch, the cat must have bodily fluids on his claws, which is unlikely unless his feet are bleeding for some reason. If a cat gets into a fight with a rabid cat, and then scratches you when you try to separate them, it is possible that the rabid cat's blood can get into the scratch.
