Foremost this is illegal and you could be fined heavily if caught. But you would reinstall it shortly after removing it because your Malibu will not run correctly with the converter removed. You would get very poor mileage, rough running, and all sorts of performance issues. There is no reason at all to remove the converter as there is zero benefit to doing so. If it is clogged fixed the problem that caused this, and then install a new converter.
If the catalytic converter is removed the computer will turn on the check engine light, and fuel economy may suffer.
Yes, a bad cat can cause issues.
You can't, it has to be replaced. It can be done easily and fairly cheaply by almost any muffler shop. Converters don't clog or wear out if engine is running efficiently. Look at other potential issues as well to avoid a repeat with new one. Running too rich is almost always the cause for a convertor failure, but you should not be running that rich for an extended period under normal conditions.
Reduced power output from engine due to the converter becoming restricted or clogged. This can result in damage to your engine if condition becomes severe enough. Also a restricted converter may cause other problems with exhaust sensors and/or performance related issues due to incorrect sensor input to the cars computer(s).
Your catalytic converter is plugged up. That's why it smells like rotten eggs. The best fix is a new catalytic converter. The stuff you're talking about cleans your cat. converter out but may or may not stop the smell. note: You need to find out why your converter is getting plugged up. Usually the cause is you car engine running too rich.
Not legally, not with out setting the check engine light, and not with out negative performance issues.
If you are asking will the car run with out it? The answer is yes. Will it run well is another question. Also depending on the state it could also be illegal. Some issues is that the designers have accounted for the converter being there and know it has back pressure and flow issues they take into account. So removing it can cause issues you would also need to deal with to get things running good again.
Either catalytic converter or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system issues.
No. It is illegal, and the oxygen sensors will not function properly. That will cause all sorts of driveabilty issues, low fuel economy is one.
It would not be a good idea. First it is illegal, second it can actually cause the computer to over adjust fuel and ignition timing and cause running issues. It would not be a good idea. No. It is not legal. The check engine light will turn on. The computer will try to correct for improper sensor readings and that will cause fuel economy and performance issues.
