If you have not fully paid for the car, it is not yours. The loan papers allow you to use the car until it is paid for; without the agreement you have nothing.

No.

Can a car dealership cash your check that was used for down payment if you were never approved for financing?

A check given to the dealership will be cashed. This is normal in business. Whether they can keep the money or have to return it is based on what your purchase agreement reads. Where I live if the purchase agreement has "Subject to financing" on it the down payment must be returned if the dealer can not get you financing and you can't get outside financing. If it does not have that in it they get to keep the money.

If you place a hold on a check can it be cashed after 15 days in the US?

What is the law on stop payment on a check?

In the United States, a stop payment on a check is a request made by the account holder to their bank to not honor a specific check that has been issued. The account holder typically needs to provide specific information about the check, such as the check number and the amount. Stop payment orders are usually subject to a fee and must be made within a specific timeframe before the check is cashed.

Who is liable for payment on a counterfeit money order after whichg it has been cashed and or deposited?

It is almost impossible to track a cashed money order unless the person who cashed it has taken complete personal information of the person who got it cashed. If the information is available, the person who got it cashed would definitely be responsible for all the charges. And if the person who cashed it did not get all the information, then he/she should be responsible for cashing the money order.

How long do you have to wait to stop payment on a check that has not been cashed?

How can you tell if someone has cashed a check you wrote them?

Call your bank. They can tell you if the check has been submitted for payment.

Can you put a stop payment on a check after it is cashed?

No. A stop payment can be issued only before the check payment is made by the bank. If you try a stop payment after the bank has paid for the check, the bank wont accept it because the stop payment instruction is useless now and cannot be executed.

If a landlord loses the rent is renter still liable?

Are you saying that you paid the rent and then the landlord lost the payment? You would have to determine at which point the rent was lost. For instance, if the check never arrived in the mail and was not cashed, then it wasn't the fault of the landlord. If it is a personal check, then payment could be stopped and the check replaced, without a problem.

No, one cannot put a stop payment on a certified check. The point of issuing a certified check is to guarantee that the check can be cashed immediately - like cash.
