People with uncontrolled epilepsy are not allowed to drive. However, if your epilepsy has been controlled for a certain period of time (where I live, 3 years) then you will be legally allowed to drive again. I have been unable to drive for 3 years now.

YES, people with epilepsy can get a license to drive. A signed document from your doctor and your seizure activity are major factors here. You also need to check with the DMV in your state. All states are different. I am in Missouri and you must go at least 6 months with out a seizure also. Yes, you can drive. I have epilepsy and I drive!!!!!!!

In the United Kingdom, epileptics are also permitted to drive if they have been siezure free for three years for a car. The number of years you need to be siezure free increases dependent on the size of vehicle driven and the purpose it is used for.

Edit: *** People that uncontrolled can't drive, but if your seizures have been controlled by a certain period of time (where I live, 1 year) than you can drive again. I have seizures and I havn't been able to drive for 3 years.***

A person with epilepsy is potentially dangerous if driving a car. If they have a seizure they could crash and then kill themselves or someone else. For that reason, many countries have restrictions on people with epilepsy being allowed to drive. The laws vary from place to place. Some have time periods that a person must be free of seizures for before they are allowed to drive.

Most people with epilepsy can work and do work. If someone has very severe epilepsy, they may not be able to do many jobs and find it difficult to maintain employment. Even if someone has had very mild epilepsy there are still some jobs that they would be ruled out, like being a pilot. So they can be denied some types of employment for safety reasons. If they are capable of doing a job and there is no health and safety issue around the person doing that job, then they can do it.

Is there any ongoing treatments for epilepsy?

For most people epilepsy is controlled by medication. The form and severity of epilepsy will determine what sort of medication is best for a person. It has to be done on a case by case basis, and that can only be done by a neurologist. For many people it may take a while to find the right dosage to use, and in some cases what combinations of medications are taken. Many people with epilepsy take more than one form of medication.

Can someone with no felonies or misdemeanors be denied the right to own a handgun or shotgun if they have a mental illness diagnosis and are no ones threat?

no they can be denied to that right. Actually, they can, at least in the U.S. One of the sections on the 4473 form (the form used to purchase a gun in a gun store) asks if the person has been adjudicated mentally defective. If the person answers yes to the question, it is illegal to sell them a gun, or if they answer no and the background check reveals they have been, the application will come back as denied.
