Can electrical sensors give false reading because of open thermostat?

An open thermostat would keep the engine from heating up to normal operating temperature. The sensors effected can only report what they sense. The "check engine" light may throw a code like "P0116" (engine coolant temperature circuit range/performance problem).

Why does 93 blazer sputter after it warms up?

How do you check a 1989 Cadillac deville check engine light?

Hold in the off and warmer buttons on your air conditioning.. and it will throw up error codes on the LCD panel that shows how much gas you have.

What are the tricks to turn off check engine light?

Depends on the year. If OBD-II you can reset the light. However, you should determine the problem first so the computer does not throw the code again.

Why does the service engine light flash when eighty mph but doesn't throw any codes?

Depending on the year of the vehucle it may have a governor on it. When the governor kick in it will cause the check engine light to flash. It does not set any codes because there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.

Why does your 2003 Chevy venture smell like gas and the check engine soon light is on?

Have the vehicle scanned for codes. I believe Auto Zone and other parts stores will do this for free. The Check Engine light comes on to tell you an error code is stored in the computer. I'm guessing you have a bad oxygen sensor, but DO NOT throw parts dollars at a vehicle randomly.

What could be wrong when the check engine light comes on in a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire but the engine coolant is full?

Your check engine light just dosent check only your coolant. It's a light for your OBD (ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC) system. That light reads numorus sensors. you will have to get a code reader hooked up to your car. if i would guess, it would probly be your o2 sensor.(oxygen sensor) --------------------------------------- For what it's worth, make sure that you tighten your fuel cap securely. If it's loose, it will "throw" a code. Most auto parts stores will read the codes for you at no charge. FriPilot

Check engine light flashing on on a 03 ford expedition?

CELs are usually related to the emissions control systems on OBDII compliant vehicles. One common reason for a CEL is fueling with the engine running. The engine performs a vacuum test which will throw a code if the fuel cap is open. Aside from the annoyance of the light, it's generally not a smart idea to fuel up while the engine is running. A code reader can pull the code and shed a little light on the exact reason for the CEL, and stores such as Autozone have offered a free code reading service in the past. ========================================================== if your check engine light is flashing an engine cylinder misfire has been detected

In a 1997 Chevy S10 Blazer if the Service Engine light is coming on and nothing wrong can be found and no bad connection what can be done to fix it?

i would check to see if the o2 sensors have gone bad they will throw you a check engine light when they go out I have the same problem. It is the transmission. I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer and shortly after the Service Engine Soon light came on, my transmission started "slipping" between 1st and 2nd on an automatic. This only happens when the car gets warm on trips longer then about 15 miles.

Are you able to bypass the thermostat in a 1997 dodge Dakota?

Are You Talking About The Engine Coolant Thermostat. You Don`t Have To Bypass It, Just Take It Out And Throw it Away. Problem, If You Choose To Do So You Engine Will Not Run At The Desired Tempature. Winter Or Summer. Remove The Thermostat If You Are Having Problems With It. Install The Correct Tempature Rating One For Your Car. Also Install It The Correct Direction. From Your Question It May Be That You Have Installed Yours Backwards, If This Helps. Install The Thermostat With The Spring Side Toward The Engine . ie The Flow Of The Water Comming From The Engine By Way Of The Top Hose. Put The Spring Side Toward The Engine.

Can you replace catalytic converter on 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse with straight pipe?

not if you want it to be street legal. removing the cat will throw a check engine light and will not pass state inspection (in most states), otherwise it will not hurt the car.

Why is the check engine light blinking in your 1999 Mercury Courgar Already change 2 sensors?

Maybe the sensors you changed out were not the problem. Post what the symptoms were, what the codes were, and why you changed out what sensors you did. Sometimes errantly the wrong part is diagnosed as being defective, like having low fuel pressure and people spend $500 for fuel injectors when in reality it was a clogged fuel filter for $10 Some cars take a few starting cycles or cycles of driving before they reset the check engine light. If you had someone read your codes, normally they have the ability to turn off the check engine light. If you replaced the incorrect part(s) then your check engine light will remin on until the part casuing the fault is replaced. I hope the parts you replaced were the problem and it's just a matter of havign the check engine light turned off. If not, repost and maybe we can direct you. Todays' engines are not like ones of old where you can throw parts at it and "feel" you got it fixed. It's either fixed right or the check engine light is there to remind you it isn't.
