Do you need to replace a water pump and thermostat at the same time?

You do not need to replace a water pump and thermostat at the same time. These parts do not ruin each other.

Why is your 96 dodge neon over heating?

Thermostat is out, or the water pump needs to be replaced typically. Also check to see if you actually have coolant in your radiator, may be a leak from somewhere besides the water pump. if you do change out the water pump, have them change the timing belt at the same time while they are in there.. very worth it.

I just replaced mine last summer. It is near the water pump, there's a pipe coming off the water pump and it curves down and has 2 bolts and it should be there. It took me a long time to find my thermostat.

If the car is overheating or if the temperature gauge is not coming up to normal operating temperature which is normally half way up the gauge then the thermostat needs replacing. 2000 BMW 528 radiator repaired then water pump breaks why?

Depending on your milage, with the 1995-2003 528i BMWs, it's recommended that the entire cooling system be replaced when it's time to replace one of the big elements such as the Radiator, Water Pump or Thermostat. The reason for this is: 1. It saves time because all of the parts are in the same area & 2. These components usually fail within 10k-20k miles of each other. When you get your Water Pump replaced, you might want to look into replacing the Serpentine Belts, Belt Tensioners & Rollers and the Thermostat.

How do you change the thermostat on a 1992 Pathfinder?

I am not sure but I think this is the same motor as my 95. 3.0 V6. If it is; the thermostat is a very tough job. it is located at the top of the lower radiator hose, behind the timing belt cover. You might as well go ahead and change the t belt at the same time. I changed my water pump and decided to replace everything else at the same time; hoses, belts, thermostat; they all gotta' come off anyway......good luck......
