No. There is no food or beverage that can cause acne, so the old myth of chocolate or Pizza causing acne is very untrue; and the same thing goes for alcohol. Acne is always caused by excess androgen, a male hormone produced in the adrenal glands in both men and women, which stimulates the sebaceous glands (oil glands). Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands. Acne occurs when hair follicles become plugged with sebum (oil), dead skin cells and a bacteria called propionibacterium (or P. acnes bacteria). This anaerobic bacteria flourishes in the absence of oxygen, irritates and inflames the hair follicle lining and causes the sebaceous gland to clog. Sebum continues to produce and is trapped with the bacteria under the skin, along with pus, which is the by-product of bacterial overgrowth. this can produce a potential rupture leading to acne lesions.
Causes of acne are hormonal changes, genetics, emotional stress, medication (ie: Birth Control), greasy or humid environment, steroids, hormonal changes during pregnancy, or onset of puberty, or skin surface friction or irritation.
