NO they cannot 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."

1 Timothy 2:11-12 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

Yes they can and there are many. There are some famous female Church Leaders. God said "man" meaning the human race as a whole and didn't mean the male species. I cannot believe my God wouldn't allow a woman to speak the word of God to help others. As far as Timothy 2:11-12 thank heavens Sister Teresa didn't listen to those words! She was one wonderful human being. There has not been a female Pope and I doubt there will be for many more years to come. Female Pope? A late 14th century edition of the Mirabilia Urbis Romae, a guidebook for pilgrims to Rome, tells readers that the female Pope's remains are buried at St. Peter's. It was around this time when a long series of busts of past Popes was made for the Duomo of Siena, which included one of the female Pope, named as "Johannes VIII, Foemina de Anglia" and included between Leo IV and Benedict III. At his trial in 1415, Jan Hus argued that the Church does not necessarily need a Pope, because during the pontificate of "Pope Agnes" (as he also called her), it got on quite well. Hus' opponents at this trial insisted that his argument proved no such thing about the independence of the Church, but they did not dispute that there had been a female Pope at all. Yes, they can Acts 18:26 "Priscilla ... expounded unto him the way of God."

Romans 16:1 "I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church." ("I commend you to our sister Phoebe, a deaconess of the church." -- The Revised Standard Version)

Romans 16:7 "Junia ... of note among the apostles"

They should be! I believe if you don't evolve then you eventually disappear. Society needs a balance of everything and religion does not have this. I think women are the other half to evolving positively.

First Answer:NO1 Corinthians 14:34-35 "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." 1 Timothy 2:11-12 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

YES God does not see gender - He sees Spirit and in the Spirit - there is no Gender . . .

Galatians 3:25- 29

"Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. 26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. "

Joel 2: 28 -29

28 "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Consider Deborah in Judges 4, who was acknoledged as a prophetess - did she prophesy only to women? Did she judge only women and allow the men to do what they wanted cause she couldn't talk to them? So as a woman - she could be a Judge over a whole nation but a woman can't pastor a people?

Consider Prisiclla and Aquilla found in Acts - introduced in the 18th chapter .. . . notice Paul greets the husband first in verse 2 - which is customary of the time; however, notice every subsequent mentioning of the husband/wife minister team is systematicly began with acknowledging Priscilla first . . . verse 18, 19, 26, Romans 16:3, II Tim 4:19 and though Aquilla is addressed first in I Cor 16:19 - this verse, along with the II Tim 4 verse, makes it clear that Aquilla and Priscilla or Priscilla and Aquilla are pastors - they have a church that meets in their house - Onesiphorus.

Paul himself, the same one who is recorded to be speaking in Corinthians and Timothy is speaking in Acts, I Cor and II Tim about a woman pastor . . . .And about the scriptural backing for the answer "NO" - Paul puts in the Word, the parameters for his statements - in the 1 Cor 14:34 -35, he says that it under the direction of and obedience to the law - this law no longer exist . . . and in 1 Tim 2, he says 'but I suffer not' . . . not that God forbids it - but Paul personally and the law and customs of the time forbade it . . . and who made those laws? MEN.

A woman is not subjected or to be submited to every man - but God, her husband and if her Pastor is a man - then her pastor and even then she is not submitted to the gender but the office of Pastorship . . . for to be submitted and subjeced to every man - would make her an object, property - a Ho - owned by every man - AND that my friend is JUST NOT SO!!!!

Another View:

No. They cannot be Pastors.

The scripture you are referring to in Galatians is speaking of our position in Christ in reference to salvation in this particular context. I Timothy:3 and Titus 1 are referring to the qualifications for pastors or bishops in the church. No where in scripture does it state that women may function in this office and this has nothing to do with the law.

Concerning Deborah, God used her because Barak was disobedient in what God asked of him. Furthermore a Judge in the Old Testament has nothing to do with New Testament Pastors.

ANSWER ONE:

No, the Bible does specifically specify that Pastor/Ministers be male.

ANSWER TWO:

Nobody are supposed to be pastors. If you feel that God is calling you to be a pastor then go for it. Some churches are a bit funny about it but many are very happy with it. Anyone who becomes a pastor is amazing because they have the guts to get up and spread the good news. Man or woman. Hope this answers your question.

CORRECTION OF ANSWER TWO:

Both men and women have the great commission to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all, but the Bible specifically states that the Pastor/Minister of a Congregation is to be male. Woman can teach Bible Studies, Children or Adult Sunday School and like manner serve the church.

ANSWER ONE:

No, the Bible does specifically specify that Pastor/Ministers be male.

ANSWER TWO: No, it says in the Bible that it is a shame for women to speak in the church. It would be dumb for a woman to stand there teaching the Bible while she was doing one of the things it said not to do!

ANSWER THREE: Yes, of course women can pastor a church. In the Bible women are called into leadership rolls. Deborah was a judge and the leader over all of Israel, Huldah spoke God's word to both king and priest, and Miriam was another prophet whose song became holy scripture. Notice that these were very patriarchical times, and yet God kept calling forth women to lead.

Why were the voices of women silenced in the Purtian church?

In the Puritan church, women's voices were often silenced due to patriarchal beliefs that viewed men as the spiritual leaders. Women were expected to be submissive and follow the authority of male figures in religious matters. This led to limited opportunities for women to speak, teach, or hold leadership roles within the church.

Are men and women equal in Mormonism?

Yes. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'Mormon' Church) believe that men and women are equal but with distinct roles and qualities. Both men and women are leaders in the Church, but in different capacities. Men and women are considered equals in the family but with separate roles. A woman's opinions and rights are considered equal with a mans, and women are expected to work together with their husbands to run the household and to work together with the men of the congregation to run the church. However, in the case of a disagreement, the men have the final authority.
