Its as simple as getting a flush connector from the parts store and looping the heater hoses using the connector as a bridge. this will buy you time to get the core replaced If you're going to do that much work, just replace the heater core.
If you're hesitating because heater cores are "always" deep inside the dash, and take huge effort to get to - fear not!

The block heater plug in on a 1998 Ford Windstar is in the engine compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle. When lifting up the hood, look on the left for a small hose that is coiled up at the very front, above the passenger headlamp. The block heater itself is plugged into the front of the motor on the passenger side.

Best to get the shop manual but basically: Reomove Heater hoses from engine block and drain. Remove glove box. Disconnect cables that connect to heater core. Disconnect heater core from firewall. Disconnect hoses from heater core. Pull heater core from under dash.
