People from countries such as India and China, where boys are preferred over girls, have been engaged in sex-selected abortions. It should be noted that even people who are pro-choice have serious objection to aborting a fetus because it is considered the "wrong" gender, but that is indeed what is occurring in certain parts of the world: gender selection is supposedly against the law, but many places do little to enforce those rules.
