Not exactly. Similar to the Oregon Trail, many portions of the Mormon Trail have been swallowed up by development projects to accommodate a growing nation.
That said, there are still places where portions of the trail are still visible, including ruts from the wagons used by the pioneers. Also, a visitor center currently exists in Council Bluffs, Nebraska that explains the Mormon exodus very nicely.
In Navoo in 1846.
I don't know what you mean by founded, but the Mormon trail was the path the lds church took moving from Navoo to Salt Lake City Utah. Why? Because the prophet Joesph Smith, said so. He heard it from god that the saints should go there so they did.
There were many stops along the Mormon Trail. Here's a link with a picture en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mormon_Trail_3.png, but the most important were Council Bluffs and Winter Quarters. They were the most important and where many sad and terrible things happened on the Mormon Trail. Also, visit; lds.org for more information.

The headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) moved from New York to Ohio to Missouri to Illinois and then to Utah in 1847. At that time, most Mormons lived near Church headquarters. Now, only about 10% of Mormons live near Church headquarters.
Originally, by walking there, mostly from their homes in Nauvoo, Illinois, via the Mormon Trail. Some came with wagons, some with handcarts. After the transcontinental railway opened, most travelled by train. See related links for stories about and history of the Mormon Trail.
I'm not a real history buff, but I'll help get this started i suppose. I can only think of three off the top of my head. The Mormons for one created a very sucessful colony in both Navoo Illinois and salt lake city Utah. their ideas were based off a city of sion where everybody is giving and charitable towards others and shares the wealth and helps those in need. This worked out well for them, but they were constantly persecuted and driven out of their towns. The Shakers were another group as well as the colonizers.
Joseph and his brother Hyrum had left Nauvoo and crossed the Mississippi River into the Iowa territory. They stopped just after crossing the river in Montrose, Iowa. It was there that it was reported to the brothers that mobs and militia were threatening to surround and enter Nauvoo. Rather then allow the Saints to face this, Joseph asked Hyrum what they should do. With the promise by Governor Ford that they would be protected arrived, Hryum then replied to Joseph that they should return to Nauvoo and surrender themselves. Their return to Nauvoo launched the final few days of their lives, leading to the martyrdom on June 27, 1844.
That is a good question. I really don't think the Mormons have really felt safe. There are people who still are prejudiced against the Mormons. Another answer: The members of the LDS Church (Mormons) kept going from one place to another facing persecution. There were many times they thought they had finally found safety (like Navoo), but would end up having some members killed and the rest chased out of the area. So they went west: facing the weather, wild animals, until they got to about where Salt Lake City, Utah is now. Once to Salt Lake City they felt relatively safe. They did have some problems once in a while (the government sent troops at one point that camped outside Salt Lake City and threatened the people but eventually left). There is still persecution the LDS members face throughout the world, but as a whole it is not as bad as the original members faced. The biggest issue now days is often dealing with untrue beliefs about the LDS Church and how people treat the members because of those beliefs. Occasionally someone will get beat up or killed for being a member of the LDS Church. There also other places where there have been times it has been safer to be LDS (Ireland during the Protestant and and Catholic riots that took place)
