Depending on the stage you can eat different things. The first stage, which is the induction is the hardest specially for sweet lovers. You can have all types of meat or poultry, eggs, cheese, vegetables, olives, nuts, Diet Soda or juice and decaf cofee or tea. The point is not going ovber 20g of carbs a day. After this face you can start adding things such as small amount of berries and once you loose the weight tyou can mantain it by adding "good" carbs, such as whole wheat bread, brown rice etc. You do loose weight fast, specially in face one. You can even eat fried chicken since oil doesn't have nay carbs. However there are many riscks such as clogged arteries and high choleterol since there is no limit on the amount of oirl or fat you consume. I would suggest it as a quick fix if you can find the discipline to stick to it, but not a change of life style.
On Atkins you can eat as much meat as you want, as well as salads. Stay away from potatoes, peas, beans, candy, sodas, and ice cream. While on Atkins diet, you want to try to eat as little carbohydrates as possible.

29. In the book, Dr. Atkins says we can have bacon. But isn't bacon cured with sugar? How can I find bacon, sausage and other meats without nitrates and/or sugar?

ANSWER: Bacon and many other cured meats, including ham are cured with sugar. Most however in the curing process lose the sugar and it does not become a factor when determining sugar and carbohydrate contents. There are many brands that may be available in your area. I would suggest contacting a local butcher who should be able to provide you with the information you need.

The Atkins Diet food list is the basis for which the protein-based Atkins Diet is meant to help people lose weight. The dominant foods on list are protein based and include leafy greens, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy oils. Carbs are only folded in with increased exercise.

Dr. Atkins has published several books which outline the diet program and provide menus to follow at home. All phases of the plan focus on including protein in your meals, such as red meats and pork products.

I just wanted to warn you that I saw a program on diets and the Atkins Diet is not a good diet. The reason it was once popular (way down on the list of good dieting at present day) is because it allows one to eat all the fat and meats they want. Many people who have to lose weight want to hear "you can eat anything you want" because it's less work for them to diet. It's harmful! Bad fats clog arteries! I would suggest the "South Beach Diet" or "Weight Watchers." I've always turned to Weight Watchers if I need to shed a few pounds and have always been successful. They teach you how to eat correctly and you basically can eat anything you want once you have completed the diet and the groups after being weighed in are great because people are in the same boat you are and we encourage each other and learn little tricks of how to eat or not to eat certain foods. The two diet programs I just gave you were rated as the two highest that were healthy and I suggest you stick to either one.

There are many lists online that offer lists of acceptable foods. I googled foods for the Atkins diet, and came up with multiple different sites with good lists. I have included the two best sites that I could find. They both offer detailed lists of foods you can eat. These two, however, are the most informant. They give detailed lists of foods you can eat, and foods to stay away from, such as white bread and milk. Good luck with your diet. http://lowcarb4life.sugarbane.com/lowcarbfoods.htm http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Atkins_Diet_Food_List
