I guess I am not alone in having accumulated a jar of coins and small notes from trips abroad. When I moved house I was going to put them on eBay but the idea of sorting, photographing and packing etc etc was all a bit too much especially as some of them were no longer legal currency.
Anyway, I found a firm on the net, sent them off in one secure envelope, they apparently repatriate them when they have about 1000kg.
They sent me an offer to buy them, even the little 1 cent US coins. Said yes and the money arrived in my bank account. As the Meerkats say on that TV advert, "Simples".
Oh yes, it was cash4coins.co.UK.
Nothing since the lire doesn't exist any longer. If you can exchange it for Euros it could fetch a few cents, but I don't think much. I was in Italy in that time and the lire was really low in value. I got a good exchange rate for my dollar to lire in that time.
18,000 lire is 9.3 EU
IF you are fortunate enough to be in one of the countries that used to use the particular denomination, some large banks may still exchange them for euros (note - not " euro's ") However you may or may not take a beating on the exchange rate because there is no use for these old coins.
Lire
The Italian lira (including the 500 lire note) was replaced by the euro in 2002. Therefore, a 500 lire note is no longer legal tender and has no exchange value. However, as a collectible item, its value would depend on factors such as age, condition, and rarity to collectors.
I had 15 million old lirasi and sent it to a firm in the UK hoping for big bucks. Hey it was 15 million! I got back a whole £4.90 after fees. Unfortunately the Lirasi was devalued by a ratio of 1 million to 1 new Turkish Lire when the currency changed. So £15 million became 15 lire which is about £6.25 at the best exchange rate so I guess £4.90 was not bad for an old currency. cash4coins.co.uk exchange coins and notes even old stuff like mine.
Any age
In 1960, the exchange rate of Italian lire to US dollar was approximately 620 lire to 1 USD.
The exchange rate of US to Euros is +0.522 %.
As of today, 6,000,000 Italian lire from 1977 would be equivalent to about 3,100 euros. This conversion takes into account inflation and the replacement of the lira with the euro in 2002.
The currency exchange rate of US dollars to Euros is 1 USD for 0.71 Euros.
The exchange rate for Italian lira to US dollars is no longer relevant as Italy adopted the euro as its official currency in 2002. At the time of the currency's conversion to the euro, the exchange rate was set at 1 euro = 1936.27 lire. So, if we were to convert 100,000 Italian lira to euros, it would be approximately 51.61 euros.
