Inner tie rod end 185.00 with labor outer tie rod end 165.00 with labor plus alignment
2000 and later Ford Tauruses did NOT have an inner tie rod...just outer.
Remove wheel and properly support vehicle and wear safety glasses. Remove coter pin, loosen tie rod nut a few turns. Use small sledge hammer to strike steering knuckle where it holds tie rod until tie rod becomes loose. Loosen nut that secures tie rod to the inner tie rod. Remove tie rod and count how many turns it takes to remove. Instal new tie rod onto inner tie rod with as many turns as it took to remove old part (secure inner tie rod when turning outter), this will help with alignment. Properly secure outter tie rod to steering knuckle. Install grease fitting (if applicable) and grease, and put wheel on. Get an alignment and your done.
remove cotter pin from castle nut on outer tie rod end. loosen from threads enough to mark threads for replacement. pull and remove ball socket.. remove boot inner boot clamp from inner tire rod rod. unbolt tie rod using special tool supplied by auto parts store. thread in inner tie rod end. reinstall boot using plastic tie or adjustable clamp. reattach rod to outer tie rod end.
on a steering rack the inner tie rod is threaded and will be the mount for the outer tie rod.
Grease fittings are located at upper and lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, inner tie rod ends, pitman arm and both ends of idler arm.
Should be 11. 1 on each ball joint (4), 1 on each outer tie rod end (2), 1 on each inner tie rod end (2), 2 on the idler arm and 1 on the pitman arm.
Remove wheel and disconnect outer tie rod from lower control arm. Clearly mark original position of outer tie rod end on shaft and remove outer tie rod end. Remove rack and pinion boot revealing. Unscrew inner tie rod from rack and pinion assembly.

Install outter tie rod and use the same amount of turns that you counted during removal (this will help with alignment). Install tie rod to steering knuckle and use a new cotter pin. Put wheel on and get an alignment.
Remove the boot covering the end of the steering rack, There should be a thin flat washer between the tie rod and the steering rack that is flattened over the end of the inner tie rod end. Pry up the flattened points, unscrew the tie rod and reinstall.
