Yes, The fluid can be changed and should be changed every x miles depending upon your driving conditions. Any oil change place could most likely do this for you. The axle parts of the tansaxle and equipped with CV joints (constant velocity) and require the boot to be intact so the grease does not all fly out and keeps the CV joint packed and lubricated as well as keeping any dirt or debris from getting in. Sometimes you can find good quality remanufactured axles that have new boots on them for a bit less than just having the boot replaced at like $100+ per axle. If your axles make any clicking noise this is probably the best way to go.
